Life in the Hocking Hills, Ohio
69Things to do and see in the Hocking Hills in Ohio
Anyone who has ever lived in the Hocking Hills is probably like me. I could not imagine living in a big city without the forrests, caves, streams, rivers and wildlife that I have become accustomed to. When it is 90 degrees out and humid, you can always go to one of the caves around Hocking County and feel what seems like a 10-20 degree drop. Old Mans cave is very cool in some places and it even has a waterfall that you can swim around (or under). It has the Buckeye Trail that you can walk that takes you through the forrest and ends up at another Natural attraction called Cedar Falls. It is a very nice walk and even better when you can take your time and enjoy the wildlife and Nature that surrounds you. For safety purposes you do need to stay on the trails around the caves. Some of the drops from the cliffs are very long.
The Hocking hills has many attractions that people from all over come to enjoy. Some of these include Camping (we have many camp grounds all over), Great Fishing, Canoe and Boats rentals, Golfing, Flea Markets, Antique shops, Cabin and Chalet rentals (with or without Hot tubs), Hiking, Bird watching, Natural Scenic beauty, friendly people and much more. For more information about the caves and parks go to www.hockinghills.com. This website will give you information on planning trips, Lodging, activities and more.
If you are looking for deals on just about anything that you can think of, try the flea market. The website address for this is www.hockinghillsmarket.com. They have a variety of flea market vendors on the weekends from April through December. They also have shops that are open all year around, every day. You can find guns and hunting and fishing gear, Amish made furniture, Jewelry, Home and Garden decor, Hand stitched leather products, fresh produce, birdhouses, Antiques, Books, collectibles, good food, arts and crafts, a motorcycle ranch, mini golf and much more.
The city of Logan itself is a small town. At Christmas time it is lit up with light all along Main St. and the courthouse is decorated with lighted scenes as well. The city is growing with the addition of a couple hotels and Walmart and such, but it is a charming little town. To learn more about it go to www.scenicwonderland.com.
Around Logan there are other things to do also. Lake Hope is a wonderful place to take the family. They offer swimming, fishing, boat rentals, cabin rentals and primitive camping. The prices are reasonable and it is a great place to take the kids. If you go to the beach and go to the boat rental/concession shop they sell fish food. Go to the edge of the dock right outside the stand and throw some food in the water and you will be amazed by how many fish will come up and eat. You will see Blue Gill and Catfish and others. There are tons of them! It is a great experience for children and adults. There is also a couple of places that are suppose to be haunted around Lake Hope. The is Moonville where there use to be a train station and a small town. The story is that a man got hit by the train and Killed and he haunts the tunnel. All that is there now is the tunnel and I guess a graveyard that is suppose to be haunted also. Then there is the Furnance where a man supposedly fell in a long time ago on a stormy night and he is suppose to Haunt it. You can even try to feed hummingbirds by hand at Lake Hope. There are Biking and Hiking Trails also. For More information on Lake Hope go to www.lakehopestatepark.com.
